I’m Mary Clay, a Southern sort-of chef and amateur food photographer with an obsession of all things edible. I’m a Journalism student at The University of Alabama and one day hope to work in food journalism full-time. I currently run the food blog for the University’s student published Alice the Magazine.
I spent my childhood in the Mississippi Delta where the love for food runs as deep as the Mississippi River and tables overflow with delicious eats and captivating stories. My passion for storytelling through food began there.
While working for a photographer my senior year of high school, food photography leapt into my lap and I’ve not looked back since. When I’m not taking photos of my own creations (or others’), you can find me flipping through one of my favorite cookbooks or the latest issue of The Local Palate.
To me, enjoying a meal is much more than simply eating. It’s appreciating the love that was put into the food – by the farmers who grew the ingredients and by the cook who prepared the meal. It’s sharing stories with friends across the table. It’s fostering an appreciation for the food that sustains us.
So grab a cup of coffee (or tea, if that’s your jam) and join me on my venture to bring others the same joy that food brings me. It’ll be a delicious excursion.
